House GOP Vote on Budget Framework Puts Millions at Risk of Losing Care

Caring Across Generations Statement on the passing of the House G.O.P. Budget Resolution

WASHINGTON (February 25, 2025) – In response to the passing of the House G.O.P. budget resolution, Nicole Jorwic, Chief of Campaigns and Advocacy at Caring Across Generations, released the following statement:

“Let’s be very clear: The members of the House who voted late on Tuesday for a budget resolution that includes massive cuts to Medicaid puts the care for millions in peril. A budget framework that includes nearly a trillion dollar cut to Medicaid is a threat to the health and well-being of our communities and millions of families. This budget resolution will cruelly rip health care away from those who need it most, cost patients their emotional and financial wellbeing, and threaten lives.

“Rather than fulfilling campaign promises to help families, the Trump administration and House Republicans remain busy playing political games with public dollars and pushing our country to the brink.

“American families made it clear that they wanted costs, including costs of care, to be lowered – not have their public dollars used to fund tax breaks for the rich. Gutting  Medicaid to that extreme will cause direct harm to families across this country and take care away from millions, including disabled people and aging adults – whose independence and long-term care is in peril.

“Our country’s families deserve better options and opportunities to care for themselves and their loved ones without worrying about losing their health care. Our nation’s leaders must put families first and end these harmful attacks on life-saving programs.”

Caring Across Generations is a national organization of family caregivers, care workers, disabled people, and aging adults working to transform the way we care in this country so that care is accessible, affordable and equitable— and our systems of care enable everyone to live, work, and age with dignity.

To achieve our vision, we transform cultural norms and narratives about aging, disability and care; win federal and state-level policies; and build power amongst the people touched by care. For more information, visit caringacross.org.
