We’re Not Done Fighting: Caring Across Generations Backs Bill to Undo Medicaid Cuts

WASHINGTON D.C. (July 23, 2025) – In response to the bill introduced to cancel the massive cuts to Medicaid included in the budget bill, Nicole Jorwic, Chief Program Officer at Caring Across Generations, released the following statement:

“As we gather to honor the 60th anniversary of Medicaid at our 60-Hour Protect Medicaid Vigil starting at 9 p.m. tonight, we welcome the introduction of new legislation in the Senate to repeal the devastating more than $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act signed into law earlier this month.

“These cuts threaten the health and well-being of millions of families, caregivers, disabled people, children, and older adults across the country. Their repeal is not just a policy correction — it’s a moral imperative. Special sessions in state legislatures are already being called for to deal with these devastating cuts. There is no doubt the pain that these cuts would cause — from rural hospital closures, increasing workforce shortages, and growing waiting lists for home and community-based care.

“As families all over this country are realizing the impact of these cuts to the care economy and family budgets, Congress must act. We are encouraged by the bipartisan opposition to these harmful cuts, and while members of the U.S. House of Representatives return to their home districts after today, we implore full congressional action to reverse these attacks on Medicaid. Medicaid has stood strong for 60 years and now it’s time to protect it, restore what’s been taken, and strengthen the program to meet the needs of the next 60 years.

“In a country where 10,000 people are born and 10,000 turn 65 every day, access to care should be a given — not a fight. We shouldn’t have to beg or protest to protect something as essential as Medicaid. Instead of defending the bare minimum, we should be boldly expanding Medicaid — not just for today, but for every generation that follows. That is why we will hold vigil for 60 hours and why on Saturday, July 26, we will be bringing thousands together at more than 200 events all across the country for Families First, a day of intergenerational action for the care our families need, including a strong Medicaid program.”
