Caring Across Generations Statement on the Restructuring of the Department of Health and Human Services
WASHINGTON (March 27, 2025) – In response to the restructuring of the Department of Health and Human Services, Nicole Jorwic, Chief of Campaigns and Advocacy at Caring Across Generations, released the following statement:
“The Department of Health and Human Services has long been a vital resource for older adults, disabled people, and especially our country’s 100 million family caregivers. We are deeply worried that organizational changes and workforce reductions will only exacerbate our country’s patchwork care infrastructure that millions of families are already struggling from.
“Rather than fulfilling campaign promises to help families, President Trump is relentlessly continuing to pursue his political agenda even if that means causing continued harm to older adults, disabled people, caregivers, and care workers.
“We want to live in a society that values care, values those who need it, and values those who provide it. So, let’s make it happen.
“We call on our leaders to keep families at the forefront of our decisions. Any changes at The Department of Health and Human Services must put care and families first.
“If we don’t push back now, we’ll see more policies designed to destabilize programs that families rely on every day.”

Caring Across Generations is a national organization of family caregivers, care workers, disabled people, and aging adults working to transform the way we care in this country so that care is accessible, affordable and equitable— and our systems of care enable everyone to live, work, and age with dignity.
To achieve our vision, we transform cultural norms and narratives about aging, disability and care; win federal and state-level policies; and build power amongst the people touched by care. For more information, visit caringacross.org.
