WASHINGTON D.C. (July 1, 2025) – In response to the Senate passing their version of the budget reconciliation bill, Nicole Jorwic, Chief Program Officer at Caring Across Generations, released the following statement:
“We are outraged by the recent actions taken by Senators who voted to gut Medicaid—a lifeline for millions of children, older adults, disabled people, and families across this country. They took the already cruel House version of the bill and made the cuts even deeper. This is not just a policy decision; it is a deliberate choice to strip vital care from millions, all to give tax cuts to the wealthiest among us.
“Make no mistake: The cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other lifeline programs in this budget bill will have devastating consequences for millions of families throughout this country. This bill – jammed through over the weekend, with late night negotiations and votes – robs the communities our Senators were elected to represent from their health and well-being by cruelly ripping health care away from those who need it most, costing families their emotional and financial wellbeing, and threatening thousands of lives.
“Medicaid is not a luxury. It is a fundamental promise that no one should go without care. By slashing funding, imposing harmful restrictions, and advancing these historic cuts, these Senators are breaking that promise. Our health and humanity are not up for negotiation.
“As the House takes up this bill with even deeper cuts, we will remind our Representatives all that is at stake in their districts. Family caregivers, care workers, disabled people and older adults will not get over these cuts to Medicaid. We cannot allow those who represent us to leave to celebrate Independence Day after stripping freedom and care away from millions. The fight goes on.”
