Care Inclusion Guide Stakes Intimacy & Joy

Authentic care stories are multidimensional – just like we are. Depictions of care that resonate most with caregivers reflect all nuances, the joys alongside the challenges.

Story Sparks:

  • Jasmine supports her brother, who lost some mobility following an injury. While they always had a fine relationship, they’ve found themselves growing closer in new ways. Finding a new best friend in your older brother is exactly what their parents had hoped.
  • Kevin started out as Leopoldo’s care worker, but now they are each other’s best friend…with matching tattoos.
  • Mesud’s dad Mansur has Parkinson’s and it’s hard sometimes, but they also make a point to make the good days count. These two are a top tier competitive birding duo.

STORYTELLING TIP:

Showcasing care in the context of how people not just bond but truly level up in their relationships when caring for each other is a powerful way to normalize care as a valuable part of life. Caring is sharing… emotional intimacy!

A quick note: scenarios described here are generalized from information that Caring Across Generations has collected through focus groups, polling, and other research. They are generalized scenarios and are not any one individual’s story, and they are not meant to be comprehensive of all experiences having to do with care. This resource is intended to illuminate new storytelling opportunities that also contribute to a more authentic and holistic representation of care on screen.
