Vanessa Butterworth is a writer, musician, and digital engagement connoisseur.
She’s originally from Mississauga of the New Credit Territory also known as Toronto, Canada — but now lives in Detroit, Michigan on Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ Territory.
Over the past ten years, Vanessa has worked on campaigns, mobilizations, direct actions, and training curriculum with frontline, grassroots, and non-profit organizations across the US and Canada. As a long time digital organizer, she strives to create compelling stories, engaging content, and innovative engagement strategy for our cutting-edge campaigns and base building programming. She works to make more effective and efficient backend systems so we can make the most of our organizing efforts.
Vanessa likes to balance big picture planning and movement building with implementation, experimentation, and relationship building. She continuously takes the good and bad of what she’s learned and experiments with more authentic ways of engaging with both supporters and teammates. She believes when we stop asking each other questions and pushing to be better at what we do, we lose important battles for a better world.
