Development Director

Job Title: Development Director
Reports to: Campaign co-director and participates on the Caring Across Management Team
Status and Location: Full-time; NYC or DC
Salary: $80,000 – $90,000, with full benefits
Applicants will be interviewed on a rolling basis, with the goal of filling the position by December 15, 2017.

Position Summary

Caring Across Generations is a national campaign that brings together aging adults, people with disabilities, workers, and family caregivers to create a dignified care system that supports our rapidly aging population and growing home care workforce.

As the Development Director of Caring Across Generations, you will be responsible for the overall strategic direction, leadership, and management of all fundraising activities designed to broaden awareness of and support for Caring Across Generations. You will lead in mobilizing resources on an ever-growing scale to achieve landmark policy and cultural changes.

An ideal candidate understands our issues and what it takes to build and sustain grassroots power and movements. You are hungry to grow our 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) budget by 50% over the next 3 years to power our grassroots work in 16 states, while also leveraging the success of the campaign to build our individual donor base.

The Development Director reports to Sarita Gupta, campaign co-director, and will participate on the Management Team, which makes decisions about the day-to-day operations of the organization. This position is based in New York or DC.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a high-level funding strategy for the campaign.
  • Support the Co-Executive Directors in leveraging their platforms and networks to raise funds.
  • Collaborate regularly with staff team and grassroots leaders to leverage our work into fundraising opportunities.
  • Establish strong relationships with funders and donors.
  • Drive all LOIs, proposals, and reports.
  • Renew and enhance current revenue from foundations.
  • Engage a sizable new pool of individual donors and increasing support from existing major donors.
  • Collaborate with our digital team to build an online grassroots donor base to increase donations each year.
  • Plan and execute regular “Care Table” funder meetings designed to encourage strategic input from current funders/donors and to cultivate potential funders/donors.

 

Qualifications

  • Strong social justice lens and an appetite to undo racism, sexism, misogyny, classism, ableism, homophobia, xenophobia, and other forms of oppression.
  • Ability to passionately and effectively communicate with funders and the public about our work and issues.
  • Minimum of 10 years of nonprofit fundraising experience. 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of key campaign issues, including aging, paid and unpaid care work, women and low-wage work, consumer-directed care, disability rights, and immigration.
  • Demonstrated results in securing funding from individuals, corporations and/or foundations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, foster and sustain relationships with program officers of institutions and with individual donors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small staff team that is geographically diverse.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and people.
  • The ability to produce quality work in a flexible and fast-paced environment.
  • Availability for travel.
  • Approaches fundraising from a mindset of abundance.
