The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the financial strain felt by parents and caregivers, especially Black and immigrant women who disproportionately provide care for others’ families as well as their own. Congress needs to act, urgently, by investing in access to quality childcare and community- and home-based care. Like transportation, energy and public health, a robust care “infrastructure” with comprehensive policies and workforces will allow all people to provide for their families and contribute to the economy.
