About Caring Across Generations:
Caring Across Generations is a national organization working to make care more affordable and accessible at every stage of life while making sure caregivers are treated with respect and dignity. Founded in 2011 by Sarita Gupta and Ai-jen Poo, our campaign is focused on creating change in three ways: organizing a powerful movement of the Caring Majority — the majority of Americans who are directly affected by the need for care; fighting for groundbreaking policy at the state and federal level; and changing hearts and minds through storytelling, pop culture interventions, and cultural organizing.
About the Position:
The Foundation Grants Manager plays an instrumental part in the formulation and execution of Caring Across’ fundraising strategy. They present fresh approaches towards fundraising strategy, communications, and implementation, and in so doing, ensure that Caring Across has the resources it needs to realize the three buckets of work mentioned above.
The Foundation Grants Manager helps drive Caring Across’ institutional fundraising, particularly foundation fundraising. The Foundation Grants Manager will oversee all of our foundation grant communication, including proposal preparation, writing, submission, and reporting. The role will essentially manage our existing foundation portfolio, research new prospects, and secure new opportunities. This position also oversees the application process and compliance of charity watchdog groups. The person helps maintain and improve the department’s records and systems for institutional funders.
The role directly reports to the Chief of Development & Operations but works closely with all team members to ensure that the Development Team is well-positioned to maintain and scale its institutional fundraising efforts. In addition, the role will contribute to the supervision of the Development Associate.
Collateral & Outreach Development

- Project Management
- Delegate proposals, reports, and concept notes to Caring Across’ roster of grant writers.
- Solicit and oversee creation of attachments from graphic designers, consultants, and other stakeholders, including two-pagers, decks, and evaluation plans.
- Regularly confer with grant writers and program staff to obtain status updates on writing and deliverables.
- Work with the Operations team to ensure the completion of accurate financial records for institutional funders.
- Meet regularly with program staff to collect stories, data (qualitative & quantitative), and other information pertinent to the development of intelligent and compelling proposals and informational materials.
- Writing
- Work from the ground-up to develop smaller concept notes and grant applications, seeing them through from beginning to submission.
- Provide writing support for proposals, reports, and concept notes assigned to grant writers.

- Expand learning of the sector knowledge and technical skillset of institutional fundraising, including professional development for grant writing and reporting.
Foundation Cultivation Strategy and Communications
- Cultivation & Stewardship Strategy
- Strategize to ensure the framing we present to funders is aligned with their respective interests and best positions us for funding.
- Proactively note areas of growth in our engagement with individual funders.
- Support Caring Across Generations staff (in particular Development and program leads) in designing and implementing stakeholder updates & engaging moments to sustain donor interest
- Initiate communication with new foundations and maintain communication with existing foundations through emails and meetings.
- Identify and relay program updates of notes for funders.

Database Maintenance & Prospect Research
- Database Maintenance
- Maintain Salesforce to more efficiently track grant applications and reporting deadlines.
- Manage multiple timelines for various fundraising activities (including reporting and grant application deadlines).
- Store and locate grant agreements, call notes, and other institutional funding records in Salesforce.
- Work alongside Salesforce consultants to ensure the Development dashboard encompasses relevant, informative metrics.
- Prospect Research
- Conduct research and prospecting activities to identify potential aligned sources of foundation funding. Determine giving potential, giving history, decision-makers, aligned areas of work, etc.
- Research articles, stories, and resources to stay current and apprised of the latest news in the institutional funding space.
What great qualities do you possess?
- You’re a motivated and experienced professional with excellent writing and communication skills, including creative visual and written communication methods.
- Deep knowledge of the philanthropy landscape (in particular foundations), and how to generate content and tactics that engage the corporate sector.
- Proven ability to leverage storytelling to motivate key leaders.
- 5+ years of professional experience, with demonstrated success developing and leading foundation processes with a preference towards individuals with advocacy sector expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to advise on and implement multi-pronged corporate engagement strategy, with a highly proactive style of work, with a demonstrated track record of developing innovative approaches.
- Excellent facilitation and oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare clear and concise reports and deliver formal presentations or training to senior management and other audiences.
